Schreier's Lumber Company is the longest-running business in Verdigre, established in 1895 when Emil Schreier acquired the Horton Bros lumberyard. The family business has been passed down through three generations, with great-grandson Chris and his wife Cindy currently overseeing all operations.
The company continues to operate from the original yard building, constructed in 1918 after the previous one burned down. A concrete plant was set up in 1966 and revamped in 2010, located northeast of the main yard building, while a 40' x 80' storage facility was added in 2004 to the east of the main structure.
Visitors are welcome to stop by for a cup of coffee and take in the rich history of the lumberyard and its past workers. You may also encounter two friendly feline residents, Nala and Willa, our beloved lumber cats.
